Does anyone know if Trenitalia's Cartafrecia senior discount is available to American tourists or do you have to be a resident?

I don't know the answer, but I have gotten discounts on individual tickets (without asking) without the card. The Trenitalia customer service phone number is listed on the website, you will be connected to an agent who speaks English. Note the time difference for business hours.
