I have spent hours trying to reserve seats from Venice to Florence to no avail. The site asks me for info already given and after putting me through that multiple times and accepting what has been there all along, it rejects my credit card number again and again. The problem is not with my credit card company. They have on record that I am booking in Italy and Trenitalia did not make a request for them to reject. Is there a better way to do this? I then have to reserve seats from Florence to Rome. Since I am traveling mid May on Fridays at about 10AM I thought it best to reserve in advance? Is raileurope.com safe and is it easier? Help!!!
not sure what the problem could be with your Visa or Mastercard.
yes raileurope.com is safe and maybe easier.
The only drawback is that you will pay more for your tickets. (there is some kind of handling fee)
Try this site the prices are not as inflated https://www.trainline.eu/
Ugh. I don't use RailEurope, I underdtsand that they only show selected trains and prices. The link Jazz gave should be helpful. Since your routes are also served by Italo, you could try them, I think it's italotreno.com.
My friend at work is experiencing the same problem. She had never used the site before. I have been trying to help her. She researched some other forums and found that lots of people are having the same problem. She is unable to complete the transaction as a guest nor will it allow her to register.. Do you have friends that possibly already have a Trenitalia account set up that you could use?
If the Trenitalia web site is giving you trouble, there's absolutely no reason not to use Rail Europe. They sell all of these high-speed train departures from both Trenitalia and Italo, with the advance discount rates.
Register on the Trainline Europe website mentioned above, including credit card details and that may correct the problem. Regarding the credit cards, it will help if the Verified by Visa or MasterCard Securecode is completed.
Once registered you can easily buy tickets for either Trenitalia or Italo st the same prices as the rail networks. On that route you can use either rail network. Be sure you're clear on the exact stations you're using in each city.
Good luck!
Also, what dates are using?
Thank you. Thank you. You are all amazing. I will take your advice and see what happens.
You could also try the Italo train site. Its the private train system. I booked my venice to Florence to Rome seats a couple months back- no problems. I have never registered. I have only bought on trenitalia once in Italy and just for the day trips.
I find the Italo web site a bit easier to use. But sometimes the train schedules may be the deciding factor in choosing Trenitalia or Italo. I like both system
I recently heard about the website Loco2 for train tickets in Europe. I used them for our tickets in Sicily and for Venice to Florence. Very user friendly and also very helpful and prompt with questions. They are in England so they charge in pounds, but no issues with that for me. I also used them for our train tickets in Spain......again, really easy and no frustration involved!!
Paypal ?? Works for me when my card doesn't go through.
I had no trouble booking at trenitalia's English site BUT I did have to get on internet explorer after a couple of failed attempts on Edge. I'm finding that some websites (in the US as well) just aren't ready for Edge. Trenitalia - English Maybe this helps.
Yes, try different browsers - sometimes that makes a world of difference.
Laura - does RailEurope offer the Trenitalia Bimbi Gratis promotion? If not that's a BIG reason to use Trenitalia over RailEurope.
Laura - can you help me understand your statement about Rail Europe? From my experience, Rail Europe:
1. often does not show all trains
2. sometimes (or always?) charges extra fees
3. sometimes does not show all discount fares / promotions.
I know your company has a business agreement with Rail Europe that probably influences your statement, but given the differences noted above, how can you say there is absolutely no reason not to use Rail Europe???
Bob - In the case of Marionsher's specific route plan, all of the trains are offered that she is likely to want to take. None of these are regional or slow or "obscure" legs which Rail Europe may not sell (and which are also not usually booked in advance). If a time were missing that she had already identified, she'd notice, but that should not be the case. I don't see any reason to "beat her head against the wall," if there's an easier option.
Tim - Good question about the child fares. I wasn't aware that it applied to this question. RE processes a 50% child discount, working from the Super Economy, Economy, and Base rates on Trenitalia's chart. They don't have the Bimbi Gratis, which can work out cheaper that Economy in some cases (e.g., better for 1 adult/1 child than for 2 adults/1 child).
Sooooo, RailEurope doesn't show all trains/prices/discounts? Even for the OP's trip?
Laura, thanks for your answer. Actually, my main concern wasn't for this poster, but for others who might read your statement and therefore not be aware of the big disadvantages of using RE. Thanks.
Bimbi Gratis is not confined to Economy Class (2nd Class). When you can take 1 paying 1st class adult and bring along up to 4 kids in 1st class for no extra charge - that's a real savings. I did it last year and am doing it again this year.
Thank you all so much. Laura, Pay Pal was the answer for me. It worked in no time. Don't know if it was a fluke but it sure was a welcomed sight.
