Trenitalia booking online and seating requests

What is the best to to have two travellers seated next to each other: Window, Median, or Corridor? And are there any concerns about booking online? We want to take advantage of a 2-travel-for-price -of-one, and so far everything on the website is set for ordering (i.e., the promotion was recognized, I have the time set for travel with no expectation of changing, etc). Mainly wanted to ask how we (2) would be seated by picking the various options in one order. And any other cautionary advice. Thank you - travelling on 10/1.

Ordering them in one order puts them in concurrent seats (or at least has done so for me). The trenitalia ordering process has worked very smoothly for me.

Hi Dean. I booked twice online this summer and it worked great. one of my cc cards worked first time, the other card I had to register with verified with visa first (easy on visa web site). if the ride is within italy, select the option to print tix at home / via email. suggest you use the Le Frecce option to book (more user friendly, link at top of page) There there is a way to select exact seats, although as i recall i tried it and it didnt' work. :) No matter, since if you buy two tix at the same time, it will decide seats and put you near each other. Note that most trains are not full, so you can pick your seats once on the train.
Enjoy your trip!

I don't ever remember ing seats as they were automatically assigned when purchasing. And they were always together. We always book 2nd class which is 2x2 seats. When there were four of us we often got 2 sets of seats facing each other. There is really no middle to get trapped in as on an airline. First class is 1x2. If you decide to move around, just remember all seats are reserved. And just because someone is not in the seat now, it could be reserved from the next stop on.

We, on the other hand, have had terrible luck with the online process - particularly when ordering the "mini" (bargain-priced) option. If you're buying a "mini," 1) be extremely careful before committing to a purchase. If you make a mistake (in our case, accidently booking a train to the wrong station in Firenze), you get only 1/2 your $$ back, no exceptions (i.e., no way to cancel and immediately make the proper booking without sacrificing 1/2 your $$). 2) the booking system is very quirky (i.e., bug-ridden). It took multiple tries over multiple days to make our purchases because we got many error messages, often immediately after making a successful transaction. Start early and be persistent. 3) The mini fare does not allow changes. So (as in our case) if you get done early in Firenze and want to return to Roma early, you can't, even if you show up at the station requesting an earlier train.
