Does anyone know what the "official" Trenitalia app is? When I type in Trenitalia several apps come up (goEuro, Train Italia, etc.) I want to make sure I use the correct one. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I thought Trenit was their official app, but it turns out it isn't. Still, I used it last year on my Android to buy Trenitalia tickets, check platforms, check real-time delays, etc. I found it extremely useful. But I understand it's not available automatically to US iPhone users. For Android users, it's in the Google Play store.

Diane,
This is probably the App you're looking for - http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en/Purchase/Mobile-Ticketing .
Unfortunately it only appears to be available for iPad and not iPhone (no sure about Android). The best App that I've found is at www.trainline.eu - https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/trainline-europe/id599502670?mt=8 . This is more flexible and useful than the Trenitalia app, as it allows ticket purchase at both Trenitalia and Italo, as well as a number of other rail networks throughout Europe.
Andrew and Ken,
Thank you both for the info. I have an iPhone and couldn’t find it last night but did find it on my iPad this AM. My husband has an android so I’ll have him download it. Not being very tech savvy, how do you “kerchunk” like Rick stresses you must do before boarding train.
Thanks for your help.
Diane
Kerchunk
Look at https://www.seat61.com/Italy-trains.htm and search for "Ticket validation machines", then you see a picture of the machine.
This way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0EdcvG002A but note that train tickets purchased online / via app never need to be time-stamped (aka validated).
Thanks!!
Their app you have to be in the country to download. I was able to download mine when I got there and couldn't from here in the USA.
My husband calls it "cranging" the tickets - not sure where that came from!
On my iPhone, I use OrarioTreni, which gives all the train times plus routing. You can then buy tix at the station.
