Has anyone rented trekking poles in the Dolomites? We have some from our Patagonia trip, but I don't want to have to check a bag to get them to Italy for the 5 days we'll need them (nor carry them around before/after). We're not planning to do major hikes in the Dolomites, but even some of the easy hikes can benefit from a stabilizing pole now and then. For reference, we are planning to stay in both Ortisei and Dobbiaco. Thanks much!
Have you booked your hotels? If so, ask them--they may have some for rent.
I don't recall seeing trekking poles for rent at ski shops; they were for sale and were expensive (just like everything else in the Dolomites).
We bought poles in Ortisei they were <20€. Your hosts mat have “ loaners”
Google NEGOZIO DI SPORT ORTISEI
You should get several hits since there are numerous sports stores in Ortisei. Visit their websites and maybe they mention already if they rent trekking poles (all of them rent ski equipment for sure). The Italian word for trekking poles in Italian is BASTONI DA TREKKING (or also BASTONCINI DA TREKKING) In any case the websites always display their email address where you can write and get the answers you need.
Thank you all for the feedback! I'll check with our hosts and with Negozio di Sport Ortisei. Now that it's been mentioned, I do remember a tall bucket of miscellaneous poles at our Patagonia lodgings.
If you do not have any luck with your lodging, a shop to check with in Val Gardena is https://www.sportgardena.com/en
They do a lot of equipment rental so possibly offer a trekking poles package too.
We rented poles and ski jackets from Alpine Rental Noleggio Sci - Skiverleih in Ortisei this February. We used them for hiking and snowshoeing. The young man working was so nice, I think it was 5 Euro per person per day. Totally worth it, we didn't bring ours from home because we didn't want to check our bags either.
More good suggestions. Thanks!
