Tre Cime or Cinque Torri for hiking? Or, both?

Hello-
We'll be spending 3 nights in the Dolomites in late June, and are trying to figure out where to base for hiking. We do have the last night reserved at a rifugio at Cinque Torri (actually, we have a 4th night there, but are hoping to be able to change the reservation).

If we were to do some hikes at Tre Cime as well, where would be the best place to stay? What's the nearest town? Or, would it be good to get a hut there as well, and either spend one or two nights there, and one or two nights at the CInque Torri hut?

Background: We love views, hiking (not extreme, though), and sunrises/sunsets, since I'm a landscape photographer.

Thanks!
Theresa

I’m answering as someone who is also planning a trip towards the end of June.

For your Tre Cime portion, I would try to get reservations at Rifugio Locatelli if they are open when you are there. It’s in a spectacular location but you do hike to it. It is my understanding that you park at a car park near Rifugio Auronzo and it’s about a 90 minute hike to Locatelli. I really wanted to stay there but it looks like the first day of their season is the day we leave the area (June 24). Maybe they adjust opening times based on conditions. Because of that, I’m have reservation requests at Rifugio Auronzo and Rifugio Laverado which are also on the Tre Cime circuit.
I belive Cortina d’Empezzo is the closest town/village.
