Travelling w/12 Month Old

We are traveling to Provence and then heading over to Cinque Terre (5 days each). We have 6 additional days after these stops. Our flight departs from Florence and we're looking for somewhere to stay as a base to visit Tuscany as a second visit (would like to see Pisa, Lucca and Volterra). Would it be prudent just to base ourselves in Lucca or in an Agritourismo outside of Florence?

Yes, if you are renting a car. Take your car seat. I can recommend the Hotel Melecchi in Lucca - just outside the walls with gated parking. They love kids.

If you are going to Cinque Terre I'd strongly recommend to take a backpack carrier along so you can walk the trails with your little one. Only the 20 min walk from Riomaggiore to Manorola is accessible for strollers. It'll also come in handy with all those stairs in the villages. If you are there in the summer and want to take your baby to the beach be aware that only the one in Monterosso is safe for the little ones and has a bit of sand ............................ I agree with Lucca as a base for Tuscany if your main destinations in the area are Pisa and Volterra.
