I will be going from Florence to Cinque Terre in June. I would like to travel on a Saturday but am having trouble finding a train on the weekend. I have been checking the DB BAHN website. Does anyone have suggestions on how to best get to Cinque Terre by train from Florence?
Try again towards the end of March.
Rail schedules are usually available about three months prior to the date you want to travel.
I had tried all but Manarola. I was looking at June 19. I wonder if that made a difference.
Thanks for the help!
Don't worry. There are plenty of trains. From Florence, go through either Pisa or Viareggio and then to La Spezia. Transfer there to one of the regional trains that stops in the five towns.
Buy your ticket when you are in Florence. You will want to buy a ticket from Florence to Monterosso al Mare. You will change trains in Pisa and then head to Monterosso. There are multiple trains daily. Check out trenitalia's website. Again, there is no need to buy your train ticket until you arrive in Florence. Just buy your ticket the day before you leave, or even the day you just give yourself time to catch your train.
Thanks for all the helpful information!
June 19th does make a difference. As Frank II said, train schedules are rarely posted more than three months prior. Therefore, if you want a schedule to look at, plug in Feb 20th, same day of the week as June 19th. There is very little schedule change from one month to another or one season to another.
Went from Florence to the C.T. last July. Very easy to do. It was a regional train that went to LaSpezia (Centrale) where we switched trains to take us to Vernazza. Before we left home I printed out train schedules that would work for us but you can get that info at the train station too. I found it handy to have esp. if we would have missed a connecting train I knew when the next one would be leaving. Just be sure to validate your ticket before boarding the train or you will be fined! We saw it happen several times. Helps to read the train info in Rick's Italy book and Europe Through the Back Door. Familiarize yourself with the sample Italian tkt in the Italy book and know what the words mean. Ron In Rome, www.roninrome.com, also has lots of good info on train travel in Italy. Buon Viaggio!
If you haven't booked a room yet, we loved Marie Capellini's "Charming Room". Check it out on trip advisor .com
Good luck getting the Charming Room. I tried to book it last week for mid-September and it wasn't available. We are staying in the Cozy Studio instead.
