We will be traveling from Genoa to Riomaggiore in Cinque Terre. We were planning to take the train in the morning, to maximize our time in Cinque Terre, but the websites I have looked at (including Trenitalia and RailEurope) show only late afternoon trains from Genoa to either Levanto or La Spezia. Can it be that only late afternoon trains make that trip, or am I looking in the wrong place for the train schedule?
I went to the trentitalia site and found trains starting at 4:53 am. When you put your towns in the search form, did you reset the time to a morning time? It automatically sets it for whatever time you sign in.

Hi Donna, I'm also traveling from Genoa to Vernazza. We are flying into Genoa from Athens. We found trains run hourly for this trip. You might want to look again. I'll double check too.
Donna,
Checking the website www.bahn.de shows numerous trains from Genova to Riomaggiore. Note that Genova has a number of stations, so you'll have to decide which one you'll be using.
One example that I found, a train departing Genova Piazza Principe at 07:52, arriving Riomaggiore at 09:48 (Time: 1H56M, 0 changes). I used an "arbitrary date", as I don't know when you're travelling?
You stated that you want to "maximise our time in Cinque Terre". Does that mean you'll only be spending one day there?
Hope this helps.
Happy travels!
