Travelling from the Cinque Terre (Vernazza) to Rome by train/bus

We are planning a trip to Italy in mid September 2011. We are staying in Vernazza for 3 days and then going to San Gimignano and Siena (4 nights) We leave Siena for Rome on September 21. We would appreciate any feed back on train/bus travel from Vernazza to Rome. Thanks.

trenitalia.it The prices on the regional trains are only posted 7 days in advance, so they show up NA. Cinque Terre is connected to Genoa on the north and La Spezia on the south. CT to Siena takes about 4 hours, you have 4 or 5 trains per day to choose from. All trains lead to Rome.

Thank you for your information. We were actually planning on staying in San Gimignano for 2 nights and then on to Siena for 2 nights before we leave for Rome. Is it advisable to take the train to Florence and a bus to San Gimignano or is there another way to go to San Gimignano besides going into Florence? Many thanks.

I'm having trouble figuring out the bus system myself! You might look for info for San Gimignano, they might have a site with info, assuming there is no train service there. Maybe somone else can help us both figure it out?

Ops, forgot to mention,to get from Vernazza to San Gimingano by train...Vernazza-LaSpezia LaSpezia to either Empoili or Poggibonsi then bus to San Gimignano Travel time 3-4 1/2 hrs. You might be better off renting a car in LaSpezia, then dropping it before you enter Siena. Be aware, if you do rent a car in Italy you are required to have an international drivers license. Or risk a large fine if stopped. Well worth the $15.00 available at AAA
Then train from Siena to Rome.
