How long does it typically take in Rome's airport once you deplane to get your baggage, go through Immigration and find a taxi to take you to Rome? What would be the fastest but safe transportation to take from the airport to the center of Rome to our hotel around 1pm? Thank you for your insight.
We arrived at FCO a month ago and breezed through immigration. No checked bags, so we just went straight to the taxi stand. Fixed rate taxis are 50€ to any hotel withinnthe Aurelian walls, which includes most of downtown Rome. It was quick and easy. Under 90 minutes from landing to out hotel near the Borghese park.,,
Once I waited an hour for checked luggage and then hit long queues at Immigration, so probably a total of two hours to get out of the airport, was the longest. Otherwise with carryon it has been much quicker. I have used Rome Cabs - the driver patiently waited for me, and deposited me at my hotel in Rome for a cost in line with regular taxis.
aherbert2, just to add to the above....
If you're asking the question because you're considering booking a tour or timed-entry tickets to one of Rome's attractions which mandate them, I personally wouldn't do either. While chances of something going wobbly on a London>Rome flight are likely less than from a longer distance, such as from the US, there's still that chance, and most advance tickets and some tour bookings are non-refundable.
Over a couple different trips, we've both breezed through Fiumicino airport (is that the one your flight arrives at?) and had long-ish waits at immigration and for our checked bags so timing could be a crapshoot.
