Traveling with two toddlers in Sep, confirming itinerary

Any input appreciated :)
First time to Europe and hubby and I are taking our 1 & 2 yr old.

So far I have booked:

Venice-3 days
Rome-4 days
11 days not booked
Paris-4 days then fly home.

In the 11 days I was wanting to do 3 Sorrento/4 in Tuscany/ 4 in Switzerland before our train to Paris.

Any thoughts if you've traveled with kids before? (I know it's a lot to jam in, they're pretty well traveled but even so I'm trying not to overbook!!)

What's the best way to get into Switzerland from Italy also-through Milan?

Is Sorrento a good place to base to day trip to Amalfi?

Thanks in advance

Why spend 3-4 hours a day just waiting and traveling on ferries or buses when you want to see the Amalfi Coast stay ON the Amalfi Coast...for 2 nights, then Sorrento for 1 while you see whatever else you like in the region before you head north.

Water shoes are a must have in the region.

As for travel to Switzerland not sure which part you mean but I have taken train from Milan to Zurich to see friends then the train to Paris to tour and fly to U.S.
Enjoy!

Are you taking nights, not days? That is, 3 NIGHT in Venice and 4 in Rome? That is important as a way to view your trip.

I would not make so many location changes, especially with little ones. Skip Sorrento which is a somewhat arduous trip south and plop yourselves down in Tuscany for 5 or 6 nights at an agriturismo taking day trips into the countryside. Then go to Switzerland for the remaining 5 or 6 nights. Via Milan, it is fairly easy to get to Lauterbrunnen, a stunning location in the alps. Then it is easy to go to Paris via Basel. Use SBB.CH for Swiss trains.

Great thanks for the replies.

For booking agriturismo do you have any recommendations? I'm looking on the general Italian website.

I'll also look at that location in Swt, thanks.

Thoughts.

Stay in Tuscany as suggested and forget the Amalfi Coast. Go to the ocean and let the kids play in the sand (no sand on the Amalfi Coast). I suggest Viareggio beaches. I have been there with kids and they loved it. Find an Agritourismo with a pool for the kids. Consider taking them to the Monster Park outside Bomarzo.

Most of all, have fun.

Agriturismo.it is a great resource. You will need a car for this portion. Pick it up in Rome and drop it off in Florence, taking the train to SW from there.

Rick Steves' Switzerland guide has just about everything you need to know about the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
