Traveling with peanut allergy?

We are traveling around Tuscany next month with a peanut-allergic child. Has anyone else with a peanut allergy in him/her self or their child done this recently? Any advice? How did you manage safety and eating out? Like any parent of a child with this allergy, of course we'd have EpiPens with us. Thanks!

Maybe you could also have the phrase, "I am allergic to peanuts. Any peanuts in this dish?" translated and written down on a piece of paper to show to folks just in case and to take away any language barriers. Agreed that you should probably take the same precautions you take here, and maybe pack some snacks to take with you for those times things aren't handy.
