I will be in Italy for the month of October, with air connections through Frankfurt (going) and Munich (returning). This will be my first time flying or traveling internationally following two very successful hip replacement surgeries, with metal implants. I am walking very easily and without problems, and have no worries about that. I understand TSA procedures for security when boarding flights in the US. Logically, I know that joint implants have been around for a long time, and I figure that European airports must have similar procedures, and that cultural sites with security procedures like metal detectors must have ways to deal with visitors with implants, they just can't turn people away regularly because their medical implants set off a metal detector. Has anyone experienced or observed how this works in European airports, or at busy sites like the Vatican, etc.? Thanks for any information or insights.
