Traveling with adult children - room options?

My husband and I are traveling to Italy this summer with our 23 year old daughter and 18 year old son. It's our first time in Italy so we are doing the Venice, Florence, Rome route over about 10 days. I'm finding it is uncommon to accommodate four (adult) people in a room. My question to the experienced travelers on this site is if there are any hotel recommendations (in these major cities) that accommodate four. The alternative of course is to book two rooms, but as you can imagine that will drive our budget up quite a bit.

Kim-
I can't say that I am an experienced traveler to Italy- just planning our first trip there now. But I have seen lots of "quad" rooms as I look for hotels.
Use booking.com, filter for 4 people and you will get quite a few in those 3 cities. I just checked a random date in June for Florence- 4 adults and see dozens of quad rooms pop up. Several are RS recommended.
Ex: Hotel Pendini- 4 person room for $316 nite (2 twins, 1 Queen or 4 twins)

We are also traveling with our 18 year old daughter in April. We are on a tight budget and have found that apartments rent fairly reasonably with a little privacy. Cross Pollinate is recommended by Rick.

Use either venere.com or hotels.com and search for a quad. They are out there but tend to fill up quickly. This past summer we stayed at the hotel San Pietro, right next to the Vatican, and had a quad. It's a very, very basic hotel but it only cost us 100 euros per night for the quad. I'm sure if you keep searching you'll find something that you're comfortable with.

I am staying at the Hotel Colosseum when I go to Rome over the summer and they have 4 people rooms. You could also try hostel websites. It is very common they have 4 people dorm style rooms- you could just book all of the beds.

In Rome, Hotel Alimandi Tunisi has a BnB next door to the hotel. It will afford all of you some privacy. You're in a special situation with one adult daughter and one adult son. Other than that, you may try airbnb.com they specialize in Bed/Breakfast setups. I think it would be really difficult with a son and a daughter, a husband and you in a quad with one bathroom, that's just my opinion.

My other opinion is: 10 days on the ground with three cities is a LOT. Especially if two of the days are travel days, i.e., day one arrival (you will all be jet lagged) and day 10 is departure day, which doesn't count at all, because the flights to the U.S. leave early A.M. If this is what's happening, you really only have 8 days on the ground, and every time you change locations you lose at least half a
day.

Maybe you should cut the cities down to just Rome and Florence or Rome and Venice, depending
on which citiy(ies) you are arriving/departing from.

Two rooms. We have stayed at inns/b&bs/hostels where we get one room with bath and the other a shared bath room for our teenage son.

Apartment in at least one of the cities, you'll appreciate the space. Or two rooms in a B&B.

Quad rooms are not that unusual and generally have a double bed and two twins, so that would work for your family. I can recommend Casa dei Tintori in Florence, a nice B and B close to the river and the ponte Vecchio. Easy walk to the Uffizzi, Accademia, etc. we had the Green Room which is the only quad. It has a large double bed and the headboard sort of screens off the upper part of the room which has two twin beds. Our family was very comfortable there. I think we paid €160 a night in June.

In Venice, try Hotel Messner. They have quad room for €150 to € 200 and some have canal views. We haven't stayed there but I know the location ( in Doraoduro) and it is great. Dine at Taverna San Trovaso for a nice Venetian meal that is not pricy (and the waiters are kind). The restaurant at Messner might be good to, the courtyard looks pretty but I haven't tried dining there.

You'll have a great time! It is wonderful traveling with teens and 20-something's. Ours went off on their own a bit and enjoyed discovering things.

If you are traveling by train (best for this trip) be sure to buy tickets in advance on Trenitalia or Italo for the best price.

In Venice, I am staying at Casa per Ferie also known as Bed & Venice this spring and they have rooms for up to 6 people. Rooms are rather austere-looking but the location is excellent and I booked a double room for 100 euro. They have a website and also get very good reviews on Trip Advisor. The B & B is run by a church.
Best wishes,
Cynthia
