Traveling to Venice during Film Festival

Hello folks: I know there are lots of threads about Venice and how to arrive from VCE Airport.
However, I am apprehensive as I just found out that I will be in Venice during the Film Festival.
Both veneziataxi and motoscafivenezia told me that their private water taxis are overbooked already. My Cannaregio apartment owner told me to use the public boat to F.te Nove.

I am not sure what to do as we are a party of two with one large suitcase and two small carry-ons. Very afraid of walking in Venice with (or without) luggage due to rampant pickpockets.

  1. I am thinking of using a shared water taxi, if I can still book one. There is a private dock right outside the apartment, which is accessible by boats except during high tides. Does a shared water taxi stop at private stops in Cannaregio?
  2. (This is not related to transfer to/from the airport.) In general, do traghettos take credit cards/phone payments or the time-based transit passes?
  3. What other actions should I take in advance? One immediate thought is to make dinner reservations.

I welcome all suggestions, advice, and emotional support I can get. Grazie mille.

I'm confused- how are you arriving in Venice? Is this your first trip? Which public boat- vaporetto or ALilaguna ( airport)?
I have not been overly concerned about pickpockets in Venice. Perhaps in the mobs at St Marks Square and Rialto, I would be cautious, but we usually don't spend time in those areas as repeat visitors.
We love the Cannaregio area- wishing you a great trip!

Hello folks:

Thank you for the assurance. Public boats are a problem because this would entail walking in the neighborhood on cobble stone alleys and crossing 3 bridges. So, I think a shared water taxi is the best option, but the Vencelink dot com website doesn't explicitly state whether the stops are at fixed points only or anywhere the customer wants. Does anybody have experience with them? Grazie mille again.

Again, where is your arrival in Venice- the airport or train station? I remain confused.

Hello Pat: thanks for following up.

I will arrive at the Venice Airport from Lisbon on Sep 3 at 18:30.
I would like to take a water taxi from the airport to the apartment in Cannaregio.

On my departure date, I would like to also take a taxi (private ideally) back to the airport.

Thanks, that helps. Perhaps ask your host if they have access to a reliable water taxi service. Seems like in Italy, everyone has a cousin........

I have a similar arrival at VCE at 1730 and a hotel in the Cannaregio district. Besides the Alilaguna Blu line which lands you at F. Nove stop, which requires a 10 minute walk to the boat dock at VCE & might be close or a 10-12 minute walk over bridges in Venice, the option I see as easier for me is the Express bus from right outside the VCE exit every 20 minutes and is direct to Piazza Roma with a locked space under the bus for luggage. From there it is only a few steps to the vaporetto Line 1 boat towards Santa Lucia which stops at Ca d'Oro right in Cannaregio and is a shorter walk with only one bridge to my hotel. Google says Line 1 shouldn't be too crowded after 5PM when all the day trippers leave. You need to check where your hotel is on google maps to see if Fondamente Nove or Ca d'Oro stop is closer to your hotel.
