Traveling to the Cinque Terre

Has anyone traveled from Lucca to the Cinque terre lately(post flood)? Which town would be the closest drive from Lucca with parking?

The best way to travel to Cinque Terre is by train, especially from Lucca. You'd just have to switch over to a local train in LaSpezia. See Rick Steves' News for what's going on in the C/T today. I think most of the towns will be up and running by Easter.

Annie, Your best bet from Lucca would be to leave the car in La Spezia, which is the southern "gateway" to the Cinque Terre. I wouldn't recommend driving to the five villages as parking is very limited and some of the roads were disrupted by the floods. I believe there's a new car park in La Spezia (at the station). From La Spezia Centrale, you'll be able to easily access the five villages via the local train. When will you be travelling there? Keep in mind that three of the five villages were not affected by the floods, so will be operating normally at the start of the tourist season (usually beginning of April). Some of the businesses are open now. Happy travels!
