Traveling to Sorrento - places to stay October

Hi Everyone,

I will be flying to Rome and arriving early morning on Oct. 6th. My plan is to take the Leondardo Express to the Roma Termini station. From there to take the high speed train to Napoli Centrale station. The following day on Oct. 7th, I was going to take the Circumvesuviana Train to Sorrento.

I am looking for recommendations of affordable and great places to stay in Sorrento for 2 nights maybe more. We are planning to take the sharedtours.com trip from Sorrento to the Amalfi coast, so ideally I'd like to be close to the pickup point near the city center.

Thank you!

We liked the Ulisse Deluxe Hostel. It's not really a hostel, although I heard they do have a few group rooms. It's very nice, with great public areas, and an easy walk from the center. And cheap. Email [email protected] If we ever go back to Sorrento, that's where we're staying.

Ask for the Rick Steves discount.

Naples- Palazzo Alabardieri. It is in the Chiaia district along the water, nice, safe, hotel is on a pedestrian street.

Sorrento- Pizzeria Tasso- it is not a pizzeria but more upscale, served pizza, but beautifully presented and delicious dinners.

I've twice stayed at Hotel Mignon in Sorrento. It has a central location, offers a nice breakfast and prices should be quite affordable in October.

Please look at Il Nido. The views are spectacular and they have a restaurant. If you gave them your train time they used to pick up and drive you to their hotel. It is up in the hills above Sorrento but they do have a shuttle back & forth. We ate there 2 nights out of three as the view you could not beat as well as the food. Looking forward to going back.

Hello- 2 years ago we flew into FCO and then went directly to Sorrento. We took the Fiumicino Express Bus from the airport (terminal 3) adjacent to where we arrived. It was clean and comfortable and very economical. We also didn’t have to worry about our bags (we travel lightly) going from the airport to Termini and then from Termini to Napoli Centrale. The bus goes directly to Napoli Centrale and you walk 15 or 20 steps from the bus terminal to the train station or to your hotel. I would go directly to Sorrento, as you are wasting a lot of time staying just for one night. You could always go back to Napoli when you visit Pompeii or Herculaneum or just go back for the pizza!
When you calculate the cost for the 2 train tickets, the bus tickets are a bargain! We paid cash at the bus since we never make train or bus reservations the day of arrival. We were so glad we didn’t because all of our previous flights into FCO have been delayed, we landed that time 1.5 hours early due to a strong tailwind! Good luck!

Has anyone stayed at La Mangolia B&B in Sorrento? Would you recommend it as it's coming in at $80/night. Thanks.

La Magnolia is seeing great reviews on booking.com. Can't speak for the property, as we haven't stayed there, but we HAVE stayed at Antiche Mura (RJ recommended above and which we loved), across the street and so can vouch for the convenience of location.

I'll second the vote for Il Leone Rosso as well.

Hi All,
We too, are heading to the Amalfi Coast from Oct 5-Oct 15,2019 flying into Rome and then straight to Sorrento. We'd like to stay in Sorrento and use it as our home base from 10/5 (Sat) to 10/9 (Wed) to do day trips (Capri, Vesuvius/Pompeii, Sorrento, Herculeum) and then head down the Amalfi coast to visit Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, and stay a few nights in either Positano or Ravello, before we try to make it to Paestum (day trip only) We will sleep in Rome Mon 10/14 due to my husband's early morning flight, though I leave later in the afternoon and will have to make my way to airport by around 1 p.m. for a 3 pm flight. We will use trains to get from Rome/to Sorrento, and will likely hire a private driver to get from Sorrento to Positano/Ravello as we heeded Rick's warning about not fun to drive.

First, while appreciative of all of the recs for hotels/b&bs in Sorrento, all of them are currently full! Any new recs would be welcome.
Also, does itinerary sound doable or exhausting?
Finally, any recommendations for Rome hotel/b&b that might work best? Under $150 per night would be great.
Thanks!

For hotel in Rome I'd select a hotel near airport. Hilton Garden should meet your budget and has nice reviews.

slmja.family, you are necroposting to an old thread. It would be best if you started a NEW thread as anyone who hadn't responded to this one is unlikely to see your question. Your itinerary is also different than the OP's so piggybacking on it is unlikely to get the responses you are looking for. :O)
