Traveling to Naples with older grandparents

We are traveling to Italy in October with a group of 9 family members. Two are 86 years old. We’d planned to drive to rental house in Nola, Campania, which is 15 km from Naples. We are concerned about the older folks lugging their luggage on trains. Any other older travelers who have done this?

Please list all of the train routes that you will be taking.
I am not a senior but have traveled on trains in Italy with seniors in my group and have observed the locals. Generally everyone helps the senior as needed. Trenitalia the main rail operator in Italy also has services for the elderly FYI

Also help the senior pack light and plan on doing laundry while you are there.

With 7 other family members I would think your family would be helping them? Are you saying that they will be traveling alone during a portion of the trip? I would make plans to meet them when they arrive or arraigned for someone to travel with them to help them not only with their luggage but to help them navigate everything.

Do they use wheeled suitcases? If so, they will need your help only to get on and off the trains: Naples' Centrale is a terminal station.
The trains to Pompeii and Sorrento depart from the underground tracks, but there is a lift.

It all depends on physical condition. We are in our early 80s and get by fine but we don't have any serious physical problems either. I have seen sixty year olds that could not handle the train. Age is not factor but your conditioning is.
