Traveling to Italy

My husband and I will be going to Italy for 2 weeks in September and I'm not exactly sure what to pack. I have heard the weather is nice but the last time I was there was during the summer and it was so hot. Any tips that could help us.

Any great places to see or go that we should know about?

Thanks!

Pack a few layers and be prepared for changable weather. Last year the first week in June was so cold in Rome that we were wearing our rain jackets for warmth. And the sidewalk cafes didn't even open one night. We made the mistake of leaving the sweaters at home becuase, "Rome is always so hot !" Never again. Italy is a big place. Kind of like asking, Aaa, is there anything to see in Chicago?" Give us a hint. We might be more helpful.

My husband and I visited Rome last year in September. It was still very hot! We took the hand towels from our hotel room with us and dipped them in the numerous fountains to rinse off our faces or place around our necks to cool us off. The water is cool and clean and very refreshing. Capri pants and t-shirts for me, cargo shorts and moisture wicking (underarmour) t-shirts for him. Empty water bottles were great for filling up with the fountain water, too! Hope it helps!

We'll be there in September too this year - and are planning on 80 degrees each day. I will re-check the weather forecast right before we leave on weather.com...then adjust accordingly. I plan to bring a little of everything otherwise. I've traveled enough to know that the best packing advice is "expect the unexpected." Your trip will never be ruined that way.

I live in Miami and live in shorts when I am not working. I don't understand why American men feel the need to wear shorts in Italy. I know it's hot but in most other countries (except the U.S.) shorts are considered "beach attire" and are not widely accepted. I say suck it up and say men, wear pants! It's just a common courtesy since you are a visitor in another country. On that note, I say, have a great time and eat drink and be merry!!!

Trish, my wife and I ALWAYS take shorts if we think it may be hot. But we take along long pants for certain occasions, and I even take along a couple of pairs of nice pants, that the legs zip off.

The bottom line is that you should dress in what ever makes you feel comfortable. At the same time you need to be able "to dress for the occasion".

We have always found that a selection of different types and styles of clothing allows us to feel comfortable in whatever situation we may encounter.
