My daughter and I our flying from London to Athens Sept 15th staying the night in Athens. then take the train to Corfu for 2nights and from there taking a ship to Bari then to Sorrento for 3 nights train to Rome for 2 nights train to Cinque Terre 2 nights and train to Livorno or to Genoa to fly back to London on Sept 25. Now my question?
I am not sure if Corfu is the best island. We want to stay at a friendly island B&B or cheap hotel or hostal (around 100.oo a night for a room for us two.) With great beaches more family than parties. and to be able to catch a ship back to Italy. Do we need to book any places before we leave. My daughter lives in London does it make a difference who books our tickets. Has anyone ever booked through Greecetravel.com/matt/barret. thank you Doni in Canada
Hi, Doni.
When I was in the Air Force and stationed near Brindisi in the early 70's, friends and I used to catch the ferry over to Corfu (aka - Kirkira) every two weeks for about 9 months through-out the year.
It's not my favorite Greek Isle, but it is certainly convenient, and I like it very much.
Corfu town is nice, but you'll definitely also want to get around to other parts of the island.
As far as beaches go... Pelikastritsa, and Glyfada are both nice. Also, there are some nice more remote beaches at the north end of the island although the water there is colder.
It'll probably be a coupla years b4 I can get back to Corfu, (I'm still not finished checking out other parts of Europe after about 20 trips and 10 years of living there!) so I really envy you! :-)
Have fun! Opaaaaa!
PS - There is (or, at least used to be) a hostel/campground combo just outside of Corfu town with frequent bus service to and fro.
Hey Bob thanks for your reply. I am still not sold on Corfu, but I did pick it because it is convienent and its my first trip over to Europe.
Does anyone have any other suggestions not only for Greece but for Italy as I am not sure which is a better city to fly back to London from orhow far it is by train from Rome to Cinque terre any suggestions. thank you Doni
