Traveling to Cinque Terre next May

Friends and I are in the process of planning a trip to Italy next May. Cinque Terre is on our "must visit" list but we're finding, even this far out, that accommodations in some of the villages are already booked! Any suggestions for help would be greatly appreciated!

dede,

It's not likely that many accommodations will be fully booked now, but rather that it's too early at this point to make reservations that far in advance. I'd suggest waiting a few months and then trying again, but do that before about November 1st, as many places close up for the winter so the reservations lines won't be staffed.

Which town do you want to stay in, and which places have you looked at so far?

Interesting because all 3 places we tried in Monterosso (Hotel Villa Steno, La Serra sul Mare, and Hotel Pasquale, which was recommended by Hotel Villa Steno) have indicated to our travel agent that they are booked, so we decided to try in some of the other villages and Riomaggiore is our next choice. Thank you for the feedback!

dede, The Hotel Villa Steno and Hotel Pasquale are owned by the same family. Our RS Best of Italy tour group stayed at the Hotel Villa Steno and Pasquale and we pretty much filled both hotels so I'm guessing that's why they're full next May as well. They were both great by the way. I would contact them directly instead of thru' a travel agent, you may have better luck. Buon viaggio.

We stayed at Hotel Marina in Monterroso last September. It was wonderful. I originally tried for Villa Steno & Pasquale, but both were booked by May/June. Next time, I'm going to book Hotel Marina again. It was that good. And the breakfasts are to die for. Good luck!

There are lots of accommodation choices in Monterosso, so I wouldn't give up on staying there. You could also try.....

  • Hotel Villa Adriana - comfortable larger hotel in the "new town". They serve a nice breakfast, and within easy walking distance to the beach.
  • Hotel Porto Roca - at the far end of the "old town" and a bit more on the posh end of the price scale. The views from the hotel are stunning, and they offer one feature that few other hotels in the C.T. has - a beautiful swimming pool overlooking the ocean (as I recall, Villa Adriana also has a pool).

You could also check this list, as I'm sure you'll find something that will fit your criteria and price level.....

Have you looked at any hotels in Levanto? I think our RS Heart of Italy tour guide referred to it as the "sixth town of the Cinque Terre," it's just above Monterosso. We stayed there at the Hotel la Primavera, which was clean, comfortable, and had a nice breakfast. It's easy to hop on the train to visit the other towns of the CT from there. Good luck and have a wonderful time- it's a beautiful area!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! We've actually been able to finally be confirmed at the Suisse Bellevue in Monterosso for 4 nights! And now we also have other options if we're ever to return there! Thanks again!

loved staying in Vernazza. Try Albergo Barbara Rooms. They are right on the harbor but be ready for stairs.

How about Trevi? Have any of you ever visited there? Our latest problem is finding a hotel employee who speaks English at any of our 3 choices! LOL
