I would like someone's opinion on where to stay. We want to see Positano and Amalfi, but wondering if we should stay in Sorrento. We have 10 days. What would make the most sense to do?
Barbara, My husband and I stayed six nights in Sorrento this past Sept. We stayed at Hotel Antiche Mura abd I highly recommend it. Their website is www.hotelantichemura.com. You also can read reviews of the hotel on Tripadvisor. We had a comfort room. The hotel has an excellent location, making it very convenient. I contacted and booked the room directly with the hotel. Sorrento is a good "home base" for the Amalfi area.
Barbara - A lot of wonderful Hotels in Sorrento - My choice would be - http://www.royalsorrento.com/
Great views , excellent location. Staying in Sorrento affords you the opportunity to save a bit versus staying in Positano PLUS - Positano is only a fantastic 35 minute bus ride away and be sure to sit on the right side of the bus. The old town section of Sorrento has many Cafes and Shops that are fairly reasonable. You can also go up to Amalfi in short order.
Whatever you decide have a Great time, Greg
We stayed in Sorrento this past April at a very affordable and nice hotel. 60 euros per night for a double. Ulisse Deluxe
Sorrento makes a great base for the Amalfi Coast. Day tripped to Capri, Pompeii, Positano and Amalfi. The weather is usually perfect the first week of April. Not hot at all, and no humidity. 65-75 degrees during the day for our stay this year. Enjoy the Amalfi Coast!
I think Sorrento is the best base but if you've got that many nights it might be nice to split them up and enjoy Positano and perhaps Capri at night as well. A few years ago after spending a few nights at the Hotel Minerva in Sorrento, the hotel kindly held some of our luggage and we travelled light to Positano & Capri before returning to Sorrento. We enjoyed Villa la Tartana in Positano. Having never stayed on the Amalfi coast in April I'm not sure about the weather, etc. We really enjoyed the ferries and the hydrofoil for a great day in Naples. Hope you have time for Rome too a big fav of mine.
I"ve been to all of those cities this May. You are going to have a blast! Positano is my favorite city, but it is so small that I recommend staying in Sorrento. Thats a good hub to many places, including Naples, Capri, Pompeii and the Amalfi COast cities.
We stayed on Capri, but that was too difficult to ride the ferries over to the amalfi coast every day.
If you decide to stay on Capri, I would suggest only 1 night and I highly recommend the Hotel Bristol:
