My wife and I are planning our fourth trip to Italy. We were thinking about visiting the toe if the boot this trip but don't know anything about places to go. Are there any quant towns to visit? Are there any airports to fly into? What type of transportation is best (car, train, etc).

I would rent a car.
Tropea is nice.
Lamezia Terme (SUF) is the largest airport.

Love Tropea. It's on a promontory and has a couple of beach areas. Also Reggio Calabria for the Bronzes of Riace, two classical-era statues that were taken from the waters nearby. Gerace, Stilo and Capo Vaticano are also good choices, in my opinion..
If you include Basilicata, spend a couple of days in Matera. More beaches an hour away, on the instep of the boot.
A car would be best, public transportation can be challenging.
