Traveling into Rome by train from FCO and then to the cruise port.

Coming from FCO what train can I take to get me to Osteniense Starion. ??? Isn't that the closest to get to the Coleseum and others sites, and to get to hotels with my luggage?

Then returning I need to go to the port in Civitacchia. Is the FM1 the best train to take. Can I do all this with a BIRG ticket?

Yes, you can do it with a BIRG ticket - I think it is 9 zones. The FM1 will get you there but Osteniense is still a long ways from the Coleseum. It is far south. Termini might be just as close. Where is your hotel? Might be easier to go to Termini and take a taxi from there or maybe the metro - again depending on where you want to go. There are lots of trains to Civit.... from Intercity to regional trains. Most regionals will stop in Osteniense. After need a better understanding of where and when you want to go.

I am going on a repositing cruise in December. I will be flying into FCO and will have 2 days before the cruise. I will spend one at the Vatican and 1 doing the sites in Rome. I can make reservations anywhere, but would like to find somewhere I can get off the train with all my luggage and walk directly to a hotel to drop off my cruise luggage and see the sites. Which station Termini or Ostiense would be best for me to go to considering 1) ease to walking to lodging 2) closeness to transportation to the sites 3) easily gotten to from FCO

With what you just told us most of us will assume:

  1. You will have more than just one carry on bag.
  2. You will arrive after an overnight flight.
  3. It will be highly likely that you will have some jet lag.

I am sure I will not be the only one to suggest that you forgo taking your luggage on the train and then somehow getting to your hotel with your luggage. (Assuming #1 from above)

Taking an airport official taxi for the fixed fee of (around 48 euro) directly to your hotel could be the best money you will spend on this trip. (Assuming #2 & #3) A limo service can be prearranged. A limo to the port might be a good thing also. They can take you directly to the cruise check in area. The train station is a couple of shuttle bus rides from the cruise terminal. You will have less jet lag but a limo is a lot less hassle. IMO. The cost would be about the same as from the airport.

I have used Bob's Limo several times. I found him on the internet.

A hotel in the Termini area would be good. The Termini is the starting point for many of the major bus lines to all of the major sites in Rome. I get on the next bus in line for the route I want to take. This way I and can get a seat rather than getting on a full bus and having to stand in a packed bus.
