Traveling in Italy's Earthquake area this spring

We're spending a week in Umbria this spring and we're thinking of exploring some of the small towns in the Valnerina (east of Spoletto towards Norcia). Obviously Norcia and Casteluccio are in tough shape but are the roads in that area passable? I've heard the countryside and scenery in that area is amazing and I'm wondering if its recovered enough from the quakes in fall to visit.

Roads are passable. There might be some sporadic interruptions of some lanes affected by slides, but those would not be common and main highways are all open.

Certain historical centers in some towns, like in Norcia, may not be visitable. Areas outside the historical centers, being built in more recent times according to more updated criteria, were largely unaffected by the quakes.

Visiting those areas would be the best contribution to their recovery. I'm sure the locals will appreciate.

Remember that as an active earthquake area it is still very susceptible to aftershocks as well as minor and major earthquakes, and circumstances can change on a daily basis.

Be aware of measures to take in case of an earthquake.
