Traveling in Italy family of 5 needs help with accomodation search

We're a family of 5 (two adults, 3 teenage girls) that will be spending two weeks in Italy in May. I'm trying to get the best value for our money and am open to anything from hostels to apartments. We're staying 3 nights each in Rome, Florence, Venice, and the Cinque Terre. I would appreciate any suggestions and/or website information on any or all of these areas.

since you will probably need two hotels rooms, you may find renting an apartment more reasonable cost wise.

Here is an agency we have used successfully in Venice and I believe they also have properties in Rome as well.

www.romeflats.org

Try www.slowtrav.com for apartment links, etc.

There are some places that have Saturday to Saturday rentals but quite a few will do a three night minimum.

Check out Homelidays.com We rented an apartment in Italy for 5 nights through the site and were pleased with the accomodations. This was the best value for us.(we are a family of 4 with 2 teen daughters)

It is pretty exciting to actually have something to contribute on this board full of good information...!!

My husband and I are taking our three daughters to Italy in May as well.

We are staying at Hotel al Piave, which was recommended by someone on this board and the Frommer's website. http://www.hotelalpiave.com

Their family room is 300 euros/night cash or 310euros/night credit. We're all going to be in one room, with our own bath.

Good luck planning your trip!

We are in exactly the same boat. Family of 5 travelling in August 09.

Apartments are definitely the best bet.

I can pass on details for apartments in Venice, Rome & Florence if you're interested. Just send me a private posting. I'm talking around 110-140 Euros/night. Looks like me may have to pay 160 in Rome, but gorgeous apartment.

Websites to check out are vrbo.com & sleepinitaly.com

Have a great trip.
