After spending a couple of days in Venice my husband and I
are planning on taking the train towards the Cinque Terre.
Is it better to go through Genoa or La Spezia? Also how long
before should I make reservations for a pensione in Vernazza?
you can find all train schedules at www.trenitalia.com
As far as when to book...are you kidding??? If you're going in high season you should have booked about 3 months ago :-)
Julie,
I don't think it matters whether you access the Cinque Terre via Genova or La Spezia, either will get you there. I tend to prefer La Spezia as the station is a bit smaller and more "informal".
Regarding "reservations" in Vernazza, you didn't say exactly when you would be travelling there? It would help to have some details on that. My suggestion would be not to limit your choices to only Vernazza. If you find everything is booked, you might consider the other towns also (specifically Manarola, Riomaggiore or Monterosso al Mare if you don't mind a slightly larger town). What type of accommodations are you looking for?
Happy travels!
We're leaving Venice the end of June, 2010. We have lots of time to make a reservation; I wasn't sure how much time we
needed. We're looking for a small place with a private bath
and breakfast. The Pension Sorriso in Vernazza looked
interesting.
