The Rick Steves 17-day Italy tour info provides instructions to get from the Venice airport to the first hotel of the tour. Is it really as easy/straightforward as it seems? We will arrive 2 days early and arranged for private assistance/transport, but it’s costly and we’d rather do it ourselves if in fact it’s simple. Thanks!
Are the directions RS provided the same as the directions on the hotel website?

By plane
To reach the Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo from Venice Marco Polo Airport, guests can take a private water taxi, arriving directly at the hotel entrance; or the “Alilaguna” orange-line water service, stopping at San Stae just 50 meters from the hotel.
The “Venezia Air Terminal” bus also takes you to Piazzale Roma in 20 minutes. From here, continue as described in “By train”.
By car
You can park your car in Piazzale Roma or at the Tronchetto and then take vaporetto no. 2 to Piazzale Roma. From here, continue as described in “By train”.
By train
Take vaporetto no. 1 (N for night time service) and get off at the San Stae stop. From here, continue straight along Salizada San Stae for about 50 meters; you’ll find the entrance to the hotel at number 1985, on the left.
wow that does sound simple, one method of transport and no changes! you can do it!
Thanks. And I’ll check the hotel website info!
To be clear, the verbage in my post is from the hotel link.
I have no idea what the RS instructions say.
...if in fact it’s simple...
It is in fact very straight forward and simple. We have done it many times.
From the airport, take the ATV bus # 5 (or a regular land taxi) to Piazzale Roma, and then the vaporetto from there as mentioned above. You can get a vap. pass for the number of days you'll be there before the tour, and can also add a one way bus ticket. I think you can still do it on line from home, print out a voucher, and turn the voucher in for the pass at the airport. Just make sure to validate the vap. pass every time you take it or the bus to P. Roma.
