Traveling from Tuscany to Cinque Terra - where to drop the car and pick up train

Hello,

I have planned a trip to Italy arriving June 17, departing June 30. My itinerary is 3 nights Rome, 3 nights Tuscany (Base is Montepulciano), 4 nights in Cinque Terra (Base in Old Town Monterosso), 3 nights in Venice. This is my second trip to Italy and do not plan on traveling to Florence. My plan is to rent a car in Rome for my travel in Tuscany. I am looking for suggestions on where to drop the car and travel to Cinque Terra by train. Any tips are much appreciated.

Thanks,

T~

Drop your car in La Spezia and take the regionale train to Monterosso.

Our family is doing something similar. We plan to return our rental car in Pisa and visit the leaning tower and then we will take a train from there to Monterosso. It sounds like Pisa airport is not that bad and has easy access to the Pisa sights.

La Spezia.
Don't return it at Pisa airport, la Spezia is easy, shorter and only one train needed from there.

We are also traveling by train from Florence to Manarola in June. We will be taking an early evening train. I'm feeling a little anxious about the logistics. Are we getting off the train in La Spezia and boarding another to Manarola?

We took one train from Pisa to Monterosso -- might be worth seeing if there's a price difference in the drop off location?
