Traveling from the Dolomites to Switzerland

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on traveling from Bolzano, Italy to Murren, Switzerland? I'm trying to plan my honeymoon and it's looking like there are limited options to train out of Bolzano. I found the Rail Europe site a bit confusing to use as it was telling me there weren't times available for our date in June and didn't give me any alternate available times. Are there better sites to use when looking at train schedules, routes, and tickets?

It is a long trip to attempt in a single day! A 9-10 hour journey through Austria or back via Milan. That might be why you are having trouble.

It’s 4+ hours from Milan. Do two separate searches. One from Bolzano to Milan, and one from Milan to Lauterbrunnen. I used Trainline

Using the Deutsche Bahn website might be helpful, "bahn.com" and put your destination as Interlaken Ost. There are two options that are both under 8 hours. It depends if you want to make three transfers or four transfers. Once you get to Interlaken Ost, then take a regional train to Lauterbrunnen, transfer to the cable car heading to Grutschalp, and then take a smaller train to Murren.

We have done that trip a few times and prefer to spend a night in Milan to break up the trip. Book Bolzano to Milan on https://www.Trenitalia.com. You will change trains at Verona.

Book Milan to Spiez at https://www.SBB.ch/en. Look for the direct train, an EC, for the quickest trip and no changes. From Spiez, if you have a Berner Oberland Regional Pass, you are set all the way to Mürren, no booking required. You take a train Spiez to Interlaken Ost, change to the Berner Oberland Bahn to Lauterbrunnen, then make your way to Mürren via the gondola to Grütschalp and the mountain train to Mürren.

If you do not have or do not want a Berner Oberland Regional Pass, you can buy tickets for the same itinerary, but I highly recommend the pass for efficiency, flexibility, and economy.

NB: you can do it from Bolzano to Mürren in one day but it is exhausting. Look for a very early departure from Bolzano and give yourself some time in Milan (an hour?) for a break and to minimize the potential to miss a connection.

Remembering that the June Trenitalia timetables may be still not fully loaded, you can find some options on sbb.ch or bahn.de for the next few days; it is not likely to change much. In any case it is an overly long trip, with 5 to 10 (!) changes. If you try to travel in the Alps out of the main itineraries you will see that it could take forever to do a stretch that is not even very long as the bird flies.
