We are traveling October 2, 2019- 18 day trip including travel. Will start in Switzerland for first time. Interested in Lucern, Murren and one other possible stop .
We want to enjoy the Lakes in Italy. We love Varenna and Bellagio as we visited 2011. Is there another Lake that would be lovely and make more sense geographically-will not have a car. I love Venice and hope to end the trip there, my spouse is nebulous but willing.
Thank you
Lake Como is.just east of Lugano, Switzerland and it is very popular--and beautiful.
Best thing is you can catch a train down to Milan--1 hour ride.
I like Lake Maggiore. It is close to the border with Switzerland. I have trained to Locarno, Switzerland from Zurich (the terminus of my international flight) and then gone on around the shores of Maggiore (beautiful car/bus drive) to Stresa, Baveno and...my favorite town on the lake...Cannobio. Lots to see and do on the lake and in the surrounding area. If you decide to visit this area, I can provide hotel/restaurant/site recommendations if you desire. Just PM me.
Stresa on Lake Maggiore is one of my favourites.
If you are going from Mürren to Venice by train, the route goes via Stresa, so it is convenient.
If you are heading to Venice, then Lake Garda makes the most sense. Stay in Malcesine on the east side, Hotel Castro, on water, has a beach, mountains. We had a car so I have no idea about public transportation. All of the Italian Lakes are beautiful.
