Hi, We will be traveling in Italy during October, planning to driving Siena to the Rome airport as the last leg. Looking for any advise about this drive, places to stop etc. We will have most of a day for this drive. Thanks! Shea
Hi Shea. Can I ask why you want to drive down the coast? If you'd consider changing to a more inland route, you could stop in Orvieto which is about halfway between Siena and Rome.
Hi, Thanks, I had come to the same conclusion. Seems that the coastline to see is further south. Would welcome any other insights, we are newbies. Thanks again, Shea
I would dump the car in Siena and train to Orvieto. It is a lovely little town with a very unusual cathedral. We stayed at La Magnolia B&B right in the center of town. It was a nice place and the folks were nice. Downside like most medieval towns, the bells, the bells. Also, do not bother going to Civita - compleet waste of time divorced of Rick's fasination with it. Then pickup the train on to Rome. If you are crazy enough to drive the Amalfi coast, rent another car in Rome. We stayed at Alma Domus in Siena. It was very nice and they have cheap internet access.
Go early, fly down the autostrada, dump the car off and take the train into Rome for some sightseeing. Just a thought
