We will be traveling from Rome to Sant 'Agata- Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to get there?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Train to Naples.
Then depending on budget and your transportation needs after you get to Sant Agata, there are many alternatives to choose from.
And 'best' can mean different things to different people. A Rolls-Royce with driver would be 'best' to some people, and for others it means less than 50 euro.
If you want helpful answers, you need to give the forum a few more clues about what you are doing and what 'best' is
Joe is right.... $$$, time, travelers. We took a train to Naples then a local train to Sorrento.

Then a bus to Sant' Agata. Or take a taxi as your pocket book dictates.
Thanks for the advice. We are trying to reach our airbnb in Sant Agata- reasonable budget- Is there a fast train to Naples and a specific train you take to Sorrento? Then I am assuming a bus or taxi to Sant Agata. Do you reserve taxi's ahead of time or are they usually at the train stations?
Some fast trains to Salerno from Rome go straight through, some require a change at Napoli. The DB schedule will show that, as will the Italo or Trenitalia schedules.
Yes, take the fast train from Rome to Naples, then go downstairs in the train station to the Circumvesuviana which is a bit rough commuter train for the trip to Sorrento. Then you can get the bus to Sant Agata (we stayed there as well and got there and departed via bus, coming from Positano and departing the next day back to Sorrento then Naples).
Here's a website that's a great resource for train travel in Italy: The Man in Seat 61:

How to check Italian rail schedules and fares:

How to reach Sorrento:

And here's a link for the SITA bus service that runs along from Sorrento to Positano to Amalfi, with Sant Agata being on the side nearer to Sorrento (i.e. after you leave Sorrento, Sant Agata is one of the relatively closer stops).
Some helpful information about the bus:

The actual timetable for the bus:
https://www.sitasudtrasporti.it/orari
Select "CAMPANIA" for region
Then scroll down the page and choose the following timetable:
5070 AMALFI - POSITANO - SORRENTO (via Meta - via Massa Lubrense - via Nastro Verde)
Amalfi; Conca; Praiano; Positano; Colli San Pietro; Meta; San Agnello; Colli Fontanelle; Sant' Agata; Priora; Sorrento; Piano

The bus takes about 35 minutes to get from Sorrento to Sant' Agata.
You should use the Search box to read many past discussions of Rome to Sorrento. That is 90% of your trip. If you can afford the (Sorrento) cab to Sant' Agata you can afford a black car from Naples. Otherwise the bus is crowded but fine. Bus Tickets sold in the newsstand at the Sorrento Circumvesuviana station.
Kim's information is spot on
Thanks so much, Kim!
