I have been checking the TGV inoui and Trenitalia Site for traveling from Paris to Milan. Has anyone taken either of these trains? The Trenitalia site is serviced by FrecciaRossa - it is considerably cheaper than TGV and the same amount of time albeit a little faster. Any information about this train route would be helpful.
Thank you!
The Frecciarossa service started recently. They are very nice trains, nicer than the TGV. We have made the trip on the TGV several times and I would not hesitate to take the Italian train instead. By the time you figure transit to the airport in Paris, security time, wait time and the reverse once in Milan, it really is not much more time consuming than flying and far less stressful, IMO. Relax on the train, have lunch, nap, read, look out the window and voila! you are there!
In case you want more info, here is one of many announcements made at the intro https://www.timeout.com/news/good-news-rail-buffs-theres-a-new-high-speed-paris-milan-train-line-011322.
They use different stations in Milan. The TGVs stop at Porta Garibaldi and the Frecciarossas at Centrale, if I'm not mistaken. So depending on where you are staying one might better than another, even if they are not that far apart.
The part from Paris to Lyon is not that interesting, but the views from the train when you cross the Alps are great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B09t_WJz_mM
Thank you for the feedback. I love train rides since I do not ever take a train in the U.S.A.
I booked FrecciaRossa to Milan for July. We are only staying the night in Milan (we are going to see a rock band) and then headed to Vernazza.
Thank you again!
Happy Travels.
Thank you for asking this question. I had no idea there were 2 train services between the two. Now I’m trying to formulate a plan for the Fall!!
