We are arriving at Napoli Centrale and traveling to Amalfi for a few days in June. I am wondering what the safest, most reliable transportation is? Private driver? If so, any recommendations?

It is easy to get a train from Napoli Centrale to Salerno. From Salerno take a ferry to Amalfi. The port is a short walk from the train station. In case of rough seas you could also get a bus from Salerno to Amalfi.

That would be my suggestion too. It may be a good idea to book a ferry in advance. Or you may want to arrange private transfer from Salerno.
Where are you arriving at Napoli from ? You can get direct trains from major cities like Rome and Florence to Salerno and not have to change trains.
