Traveling from Milan to Florence

We are heading to Florence after our RS Small Village tour is over. We'll bus to Milan from Lago d'Orta ...and want to head to Florence. What is the best choice: bus or train?

Choo-Choo all the way. The train from Milano to Firenze costs around $50 one way and takes 1 hr 40 minutes. The bus costs less, but at 4 hrs 52 minutes, it is painfully long. I have done the train; it is super easy.

Of course train. You can get cheaper ticket if you buy it early.

You can buy it even 10 min before boarding the train at the station. Seats don't sell out. There are always seats available since trains between Milan and Florence are very frequent (2 to 4 per hour).

However if you want discounted tickets (Economy and Super Economy fares), you need to buy them earlier. Those fares are generally gone on the day of travel or even much earlier (tickets go on sale online 120 days prior to travel date).

Be aware that those discounted fares have restrictions. Once you book and pay a specific train at those discounted fares, you are locked in. No changes nor refunds allowed.
