Traveling from Lake Como !Cernobbio, to Geneva, Switzerland

Hi,
I am going to attend a wedding in Cernobbio, Lake Como on June 8 but have to take a day trip to Geneva, Switzerland on June 6 and come back to lake Como the same night!!
Is it even possible? And if it is, what is the best type of travel from either Lake Como or even Milan?
By the way we are going to Milan and Como from the June 4th

Any information or advice will be greatly appreciated .

You can check times at http://www.dbbahn.com/ The last train leaving Geneva is 18:39 arriving in MIlan at 22:37. Then you still have to get back to Como.

The first ferry from Cernobbio is 7:14 and arrive in Como 7:27
http://www.navigazionelaghi.it/eng/c_orari_1.asp

Then you take 8:13 train Como Geneva arriving at 14:45. That's after 3 train changes. You'll have to stay over in Geneva if you need to do any business.

The trains MIlan to Geneva is 4 -4.5 hours if you route Como to Milan to Geneva. But above was thru Como-Lugano- Geneva.

This wouldn't be a day trip

Possible? Yes, but you will not get there until after lunch, and the return will get you back after midnight.
Fastest way is to take a morning train from Como S. Giovani (7:13) to Milano Centrale and change to the EC train to Geneva (12:21), return on the 6:39 pm EC train to Milano Centrale change to trains to Monza, then Como S. G. at 8 past midnight.
Slightly more time going by way of Zurich.

Edit- Use a taxi to get to/from Como.
