My husband and I are staying in Tuscany late September 2019 and need to drop off our hire car. I was thinking of dropping it off in Florence (1/2hr drive) then trying to make travel plans to get us down to Praiano. I've looked at flights, trains and would love to do a water taxi from Selerno to Praiano.
Rita from other posts had mentioned a local man that provided great tours and was very helpful.
I would love anyones opinions/experiences on the best travel tips for this journey.

Praiano has NO ferry dock. Train from Firenze S.M.Novella to Napoli Centrale station. Then take this shuttle to Praiano

Another option would be to take the train to Salerno, ferry to Amalfi and bus to Praiano, but Gerri's suggestion sounds less complicated.

Drop off your rental car in Sorrento. It will make life easier and probably less expensive than trains, planes.
The autostrada heading south is a good highway. We were in a similar situation as you, planning to drop the car off in the north. We changed drop off location, dropped car in Naples at the airport and the price went down. Easy drive south from Umbria. Once you drop off car, then take a bus or taxi to Praiano.

Note, Rita took the train to Salerno, then the ferry to Amalfi, bus to Praiano. She used the water taxi for excursions around the area to visit caves and to swim. Which is an excellent idea.

She had 3 changes of transportation and with waiting for different modes (train, ferry, bus) spent around 2-3 hours.
There are 2 bus companies that travel from Praiano. This one goes primarily to Positano.
This one covers the whole coast.
