Anyone had experience making the Cinque Terra to Volterra connection either by bus or train on a Sunday? How much shall I expect to pay if I need to take a cab from Pisa? We are traveling the last week of September 2018. Any information will be appreciated.

There won't be as many trips on a Sunday, but it should easily be possible to make that trip. You didn't say which of the five towns you'd be staying in, so I checked connections from La Spezia Centrale.
There are numerous trains from La Spezia to Pontedera (most with one change at Pisa Centrale), with fares ranging from €9-18 (depending on which train you choose). From Pontedera you'll travel by Bus to Volterra. I believe this is the bus company, so the website should have all the information - http://www.pisa.cttnord.it/ . The bus trip is 1H:12M and probably won't cost much.
There may be other routes that you can use. Hopefully one of the other forum members can provide further information.
