Good morning. I am considering traveling this March, alone in Sicily. I am quite interested in history/ruins. Lying around on the beach for days is not my thing. I would rely on public transportation. Is that viable? Would it be worth the trip? Would relying on public transportation create a major limitation? For those who have traveled in Sicily, your expertise is appreciated.
Also, any suggestions as to where to visit in Sicily would be gratly appreciated.
Thank you.
Eric

Traveling alone wouldn’t be an issue and Sicily has a pretty decent bus system that can get you to all the main sights and towns. I suggest you do a little research and come back with a more focused question. There are some places on the island that tourists gravitate to, such as Palermo, Segesta, Ortigia, Noto, Agrigento, Trapani, Monreale, Cefalù, Taormina, etc. To see the majority of sights 2-3 weeks would be optimal.
I’ll be there in Spring, solo for two days either end, and my friend from the UK joins me in the middle.
Our/my plan is 6 n in Palermo with day trips to Monreale (city bus)and Agrigento (train) and explore Palermo itself.
InterBus (3hrs) to Siracusa, stay 5 n.
Day trips to Modica, Ragusa and Catania.
Bus back to Palermo, 3 more n.
Day trip to Cefalu.
We are only scratching the surface!
Staying in rental apartments: Airbnb and Booking.com.
Trains there are having a refresh in some areas, new tracks etc, hence the bus travel to Siracusa.
