I'm excited to return to the Eternal City during a quieter, albeit, colder time, and in addition to lots of walking and absorbing the spirit of the city, I plan to take several day trips outside of Rome. I'm a woman in my 50's, traveling from L.A./San Diego, and if you'd like to meet up for a cappuccino, gelato or vino, let me know! Happy New Year :-). ~Sylvia
Would have loved to, but I won't be in Italy until the 10th, and not in Rome till late in the month.
And, probably like you, hoping the weather warms up.
What a great idea, I have met friends-for-life this way!
Unfortunately, I will not be there until summer.
What a great idea! I'll be in Rome by myself but not til April. I may steal your idea and look for a meet up for a gelato or cafe then. Thanks,
I would have taken you up on it, but I was there a couple of months ago! I was also traveling solo and met a few other solo travelers. Traveling alone is actually not bad. I am sure you will have a great time. I highly recommend Orvieto as a day trip, such a fun small city.
I'm thinking of traveling solo in mid-February and was going to start a post asking what's it like taking the 10 day Venice-Florence-Rome tour solo? I'm in my early 50s from Los Angeles and the long flight has my nerves up the most. 😆
Rosie, the RS tours are great . . . everyone says so. It's very rare that people aren't friendly on the tours. Almost invariably everyone is welcoming and inclusive to singles as well as couples and families.
Plan to get to Italy a day or two before the tour starts to get adjusted to the time change and be fresh to start the tour. Venice will be a little crazy that weekend - it's the opening weekend of Carnevale, so you may find that by now many hotels are booked and they are all super-expensive. You could fly into Milan and spend a night or two in Verona or Padua. Both are easy to manage on your own, have some interesting sights and are close to Venice. Then, if you can manage the time away from home, stay after the tour to see more of Rome.
BTW I'll be in Venice the weekend before the tour begins and in Rome for almost a weekend after the tour ends (I'll be in Naples and Salerno during the tour) so if you decide to take the tour, PM me!
