Hello, I am planning a trip to Italy for my family of 3. This will be our first time traveling outside the country with a child. I am hoping someone can help me with what documents our son, who will be 4 at the time of the trip, will need beside a passport. We are American citizens, if that matters for which documents are needed, and both my husband (son's father) and I (son's mother) will be going. TIA.
It's not clear if you are the other parent of the child.
Sorry post has been updated child is our biological son.
Passport is all you need.
Passport is all you need for your son.
For you and husband you will need passport, CDC vaccination card or a negative COVID test or proof of COVID recovery.
Also the Passenger Locator Form- which your airlines should have available on their website.
Thank you.
Assuming both biological parents are travelinvg together with the child :
Passport, and double check covid test requirements before you go. It’s possible a negative test for children will be required.
If your last names are different then a copy of a birth certificate listing Jane Maidenname as mother could be useful in the off chance that someone questions you. I’ve never heard of this happening and Italians are certainly familiar with different last names in families. But it can’t hurt, my friends with different names from their child do this. Just in case.
