Travel warning: Flooding in the Vicenza area

We're having massive rains here in Northern Italy and the situation here in Vicenza is very bad; the entire downtown area is underwater and there's flooding all over as apparently the flooding caused a levy to break. Yesterday they even closed the A4 autostrada for a bit (not sure if it's been reopened yet). Anyway, if you're planning on passing through this way anytime soon, you'd better be careful. If you want to see pictures or video, just google: Vicenza flooding

UPDATE: Just got a message that the A4 Autostrada exits between Verona and Padova are all closed. Not the actual autostrada but the EXITS, due to flooding.

High water is expected in Venice today, Nov. 2. It's rainy today, and more is expected. I'm going to go look at the flooding at Piazza San Marco, then stay on the Vaporetto to the next stop. I have my RS podcast of the Grand Canal tour, and Frari church tour. I'll try to stay dry.

Thanks for the warning. I hope the floodwaters subside without leaving much damage. Stay safe, Rik.

Thank you so much for the information. We are in Rome now and scheduled to be in Venice a week from today. The weather forecast is for a few sunny days then more heavy rain by next Monday. It rained in Rome yesterday but only sprinkled for about an hour today. Please continue to post if you have information or advise about being in Venice next week.

We were in Aviano over the weekend and nothing but rain. When we left yesterday the rivers were VERY high. We were gonna try to go to Vicenza on the way back but (apparently) the autostarda was actually closed at some point as they were diverting everything to A13.
Stay dry Rik!

I was in Verona with friends visiting on Tuesday November 2, 2010. Mid afternoon, we started driving toward Venice which is about 70 miles away. When we reached the A4 autostrada we were told by police that the road was closed toward Venice due to flooding. He sent us with what seemed like most everyone else on a side road that took us 5 hours to get to Venice. On the way back on Wednesday afternoon, they were just opening up the autostrada again for traffic. We were heading toward Florence and it was at this exit that traffic had previously been closed on the east side of Vicenza.

We'll be in Venice on Friday. Would flooding affect the trains? I've never been there before so have no idea.
