Christina, this one should work just fine and will protect your new iPod. The only thing you keep in mind is that for Italy this one only provides you with the new EU two-plug and not the old Italian three-plug one. Most hotels, hostels have got the new power outlets nowadays but I've found that in some places there are still only the old ones. But you don't need to charge your iPod every single day, do you?

Christina, the easiest solution for I-Pod charging would be to use a product like the Sonnet multi-voltage travel Charger (available at Future Shop). It is equipped with folding pins, so is designed for travel. You will also need at least one Plug Adapter with the two round Pins (available at travel stores, The Source, etc. - they are very inexpensive).
I was in Italy last Fall and used that combination for my I-Pod Nano, and it worked flawlessly!
Happy travels!!!

Another possible solution: If you already have an Apple charging unit (square device - white - two electrical prongs on one side/USB port on other), it can automatically convert Italian electrical current to the proper amount. Just double-check the small print for "AC 100-240 V". You then only need an inexpensive outlet adapter.

I was in Europe this summer and all I needed to charge my iPod was an adapter (the 2 prong kind). I took a converter, but ended up not needing it for anything. I do have an older iPod so am not sure if that matters.

I have this device and absolutely love it. I can charge my iPod on the USB at the same time I charge my camera batteries. Also, I think you can use this on the old three-pong kind of plugs as well as the new modern two-prong kind in the EU...at least that's what the diagrams on the instruction sheet seem to imply.

I recently came back from Italy with my iPod. And I used it only once over there. The first train I was on and that was it. I was too tired from all the walking and the sites to even pull it out and turn it on after that.

I used my 30GB ipod as my photo storage hard drive last May. Charging the ipod is not an issue so long as you have the prong adapter (you shouldn't need a converter).

If you do use your ipod to store your pictures, be sure it is fully charged before transferring from your camera's storage cards. It can take quite awhile to move a lot of pictures. I was using a 2GB SD card.
