Hello travelers
Thank you in advance for any suggestions and or guidance. We will be staying in Verona for a few days and from there want to travel to the Dolomites using public transportatin. I have looked at trains/buses to reach Ortisei and can't seem to nail this down. Travel first to Balzano then to Ortisei?
We are interested in staying at a hotel in Ortisei. If anyone has hotel suggestions, that would be appreciated too.
Thank you.
Use the Suedtirol Mobil site with the timetable search on the left. From is Verona Stazione Porta Nuova. To: use Ortisei Piazza San Antonio.

Yes, train from Verona to Bolzano ( note spelling) and SAD bus from there to Ortesei.
This website has the schedule; look at the "350" line.

And note that the timetable uses the German spelling: Bozen = Bolzano and St. Ulrich = Ortesei.
From Bolzano Central Station , the #350 bus will take you Ortisei ( St. Antoninus Platz ) in about fifty minutes . http://www.sad.it/de
Wanted to add that the Bolzano ( or 'Bozen') train station has a luggage storage room, which simplifies things if you want to explore Bolzano a bit before going to Ortisei.
Try the rome2rio.com website for specific instructions and links to timetables. You can do the Dolomites with public transportation but be patient and avoid using the bus system on Sundays. Very limited schedule. Take the train to Bolzano then the bus to Ortisei. Once there you can walk everywhere and take the gondola up to the Seiser Alm.
Since you don't mention your trip dates, to sure to check for gondola / seggiovia operating dates. Many are closed from Oct. 13, I think, and don't re-open until early June. The Alpe di Siuis goes to Nov. 3 this year. https://www.valgardena.it/en/summer-holidays-dolomites/lifts/
