Travel to Syracuse, Sicily, from Catania Airport

We fly into Catania in April, 2025, and need to get to Syracuse. I hear the bus is more reliable than the train??

Also, once in Syracuse, need to walk across to Ortigia. If anyone has done this same trip, Id love to hear ypur tips or opinions. THANKS!

We took the bus from the Catania airport to Siracusa. (Is there a train?) It was reliable and comfortable. We walked from the bus stop in Siracusa to Ortigia. It's maybe a mile and flat.

Bus is more convenient. Leaves from the airport.
Bus goes airport to bus “station” in Siracusa.
Bus is an annoying ride with constant speed changes.
The taxi drivers in Siracusa are assholes who want cash.
We, after being assholes ourselves, got one who took credit cards.

The train requires you to take a bus to Catania Centrale.
The train is smoother.
The train station is a building.

We took the bus to Siracusa and the train from.

I did the opposite route. I walked from Ortygia, across the bridge, to the bus stop and caught the bus directly to the airport. Walk was several blocks but all flat. We bought our bus tickets from a little nearby tobacco shop on same day. This was a few years ago so that may have changed. Bus was almost full but we were travelling in September. Suitcases went into the hold below the bus. trip was easy and dropped us off right at the airport. I would take the bus simply because it is right there at airport. If you go by train, you first need to get into Catania to the train station.

We did the same as Jules M and found it convenient and well priced.
