Travel to Sardinia from Emilia-Romagna area

I'd like recommendations on best method of travel from Emilia-Romagna area (I'll be going from Rimini, Ferrara, or Ravenna, not sure yet which) to Sardinia. Train or bus? Website for fares and timetables? Ferry info?

We know of no train or bus that goes to Sardinia , as it is an island and there is no bride that spans the 100 miles or so that it is from the mainland. There are ferries that leave from Rome's port,Civitavecchia.
