Travel to Pisa?

I assume that Pisa might be an interesting day trip out of Florence: train or bus? Thanks.

Marjie, there are 54 trains a day from Florence to Pisa. All are on Regionale trains with no train changes. The fare is 7.10Euro and the journey takes between 49min and 1hr30min depending on the run you choose. No seat reservations permitted on the Regionale trains.

When I was in Florence, I took a daytrip to Lucca and Pisa, in that order. I highly recommend this. Lucca is a beautiful town with an intact wall that you can walk or bike on. In 1989 it was not very heavily visited; my understanding is that the number of visitors has increased only somewhat. Then, I got to Pisa toward the end of the day. The vendors of tacky knick-knacks were literally packing up, and the afternoon light made the Field of Miracles (where the Leaning Tower is) really beautiful. You can connect these cities by either train or bus. Since you're asking a lot of questions about not only where to go from Florence, but how to accomplish the logistics, I HIGHLY recommend you get a copy of Rick Steves Florence and Tuscany, pronto. He has all the details of how to get to each place, as well as some descriptions of towns large and small, that may help you decide where to go. You can also look at his videos on Hulu or YouTube for more information.
