Travel to Meta Italy from Rome

Hi...what is the best way to get to Meta Italy from Rome? We are considering renting a car for flexibility as an option. Also, how long is the drive from meta to Positano?
Thanks very much!

Karen: It takes about as long to drive as it does to take the train and then bus or taxi (check rome2rio.com). So whatever makes you more comfortable.

Karen,

The best way to travel Rome to Meta is the train. Total travel times 2 1/2 hrs. You will arrive in Naples then switch to the Circumvesuvian which is located on the lower level of the station.

The ride to Meta is about an hour.
For travel from Meta to Positano, take the Sita bus. Takes about 40 minutes.

A car will not be an advantage.
The road is at best one and a half lanes. If you meet a bus driving around the curve, you are required to back up. Not an easy feat, as the cars behind you need to also. Parking is also very expensive...think 40Euro/hour. The only time I'd recommend a rental in this area is early spring or late fall.
